The Canali Program is the official discernment program run by the Brisbane Archdiocese Vocations office to help men discern the call to ordained ministry. The underpinning principle of the Canali Program is that a man in discernment for the seminary and the ordained life is best served by first becoming an active lay minister in a local parish community. With prayer and the sacraments, active participation through lay ministry is essential in providing a foundation for ordained ministry. It informs one’s journey of formation and ongoing discernment. So the program is focused on providing a ‘real world’ experience in the life of the Church.
What the Canali Program can offer

The Canali program is an intentional discernment pathway that can help the candidate understand their own spiritual journey and capacity for ministry. However, it does not replace the skills and experience gained from tertiary study or employment. Therefore, the program requires the candidate to be self-sufficient, motivated, and productive in their day-to-day activities. And the requirement is that the candidate is undertaking full-time work or study. The candidate will be supervised and supported by the Canali Program coordinator throughout their program.
